What are the reasons for a student to defer their enrolment? Each student may have their own rationale and is not required to disclose it. Some common reasons, however, include travel, work commitments, or other temporary obligations that impact the ability to study.
How does the process work? Upon notifying Student Support in writing of your deferral request and its duration, you can anticipate a temporary suspension of your student portal. This means you will be unable to access classes, course materials such as e-learning modules, and assessments during this period. This action allows us to halt any time constraints on your enrolment. Once the deferral period has elapsed, your portal access will be reinstated, and you can resume your enrolment.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Is a deferral the same as an extension? A: No, deferrals are cost-free and only pause your studies. If you had 6 months remaining to complete your enrolment before deferring, you will still have 6 months upon your return. Extensions, on the other hand, extend the time to complete the course and involve a fee.
Q: I am on a payment plan, do I still need to make payments during a deferral? A: Yes, you can only defer your enrolment, which does not encompass payments. You are still required to fulfil any payment agreements made with external parties or IAP. Deferring enrolment is not a form of financial assistance.
Q: I deferred for X months but I am ready to return earlier, is this permissible? A: Yes, you can return at any time by informing student support. You have up to 12 months and are not obligated to take them consecutively.
If you wish to proceed with a deferral, kindly email support@iap.edu.au and specifying the duration in months.
