What This Means for You
Your instructors and assessors at IAP cannot provide therapy or counseling services to current students. This includes any form of mental health treatment, even if they are qualified therapists outside of their IAP role.
Why We Have This Policy
This boundary exists to protect your best interests:
- Fair Assessment: Your academic work will be evaluated objectively, without any information from therapy influencing grades or feedback
- Safe Learning Environment: You can participate fully in class without worrying that personal disclosures might affect your academic standing
- Effective Support: When you need therapeutic support, you'll be connected with professionals who can focus solely on your wellbeing without any competing roles
Getting the Support You Need
If you need counseling or therapeutic support, your instructors will gladly provide referrals to qualified professionals in the community. We want to ensure you get the help you need from the right person in the right context.
Your Rights
- You have the right to clear professional boundaries with all IAP staff
- You can feel confident that your academic assessment is fair and unbiased
- You can request referrals for therapeutic support at any time
- All interactions with IAP staff will maintain appropriate professional standards
